Это даже не цветоводы, а я не знаю кто. Это первооткрыватели, естествоиспытатели какие-то, натуралисты. Их предки ломились сквозь джунгли с лупой и лопаткой в руках, выкапывали экземпляры, привозили на родину, пристраивали в оранжереи и называли своими неблагозвучными именами. Теперь они сами пыхтят где-то в кустарниках: «Ой, Тань, подержи минуточку... я вон тот еще хочу достать... Ну вот тот, видишь?» Хруст, треск... Воровато озираясь, из зарослей испанского парка вываливаются две российские тетушки, прижимая к груди кактусы.
На территории ли гостиницы или в парке, на лоне природы или в ботаническом саду нет-нет да и увидишь, как соотечественницы азартно крадут розы, выкапывая их по ночам. Продираются, как медведь сквозь валежник, чтобы выдрать с корнями цветок, отломать черенок, натрясти семян, заворачивают их в салфеточки, суют в баночку, везут, замирая от ужаса, через та-можню, сажают на подоконнике, на даче, водят гостей, хвастаются: «Это мы из Испании, Италии, Турции привезли...» Нет, я понимаю этот азарт. Одно дело - купить в горшке какую-нибудь капризницу пышноцветущую, и она у тебя через неделю сдохнет, невзирая на уход, или откажется цвести навеки. И совсем другое - добыть в бою, притащить с приключениями, вырастить в муках и любоваться результатом. И вспоминать, что это веточка того фикуса, который у нас возле балкона рос,а потом его местные служащие обрезали, и вот он теперь дома - кусочек заграницы...
Одно дело - помидоры разводить в коробках из-под сока на рассаду. И совсем, совсем другое - взрастить из семян, допустим, каллистемон с соцветиями, похожими на красный бутылочный ершик! Одно дело - кактус в магазине купить, а другое - сорвать с роскошной дикорастущей опунции кругляшок, исколоться зверски, укоренить в песочке, потом регулярно у домашних колючки из пальцев вынимать пинцетом для бровей, а колючки у опунции подлейшие, тончайшие, вытащить невозможно... «Да выброси ты эту дрянь!» - «Нет, не могу, память...»
Коммерсанты уже давным- давно раскусили эту страсть. Для пламенных туристов-натуралистов придуманы семена в упаковке (семь долларов штука в duty free, вырасти себе настоящую пальму! - а в упаковке, между прочим, банальная косточка финика), вскрой, поливай и будет тебе развесистое счастье. А в Крыму ушлые старушки рассаживаются на парапете вдоль набережной: вот тебе олеандра росточек, вот розмарин... Крымская земля - серый, рыжий, каменно-спекшийся ком в обрезанной пластиковой бутылке. Когда обнаружишь, что ветка розмарина была просто отрезана и в этот ком вкопана (даже без корней), - старушки уже след простыл вместе с твоими пятью гривнами...
Счастливое детское желание посмотреть, что же все-таки получится, заставляет вполне взрослых людей совершать очевидные глупости: покупать нежизнеспособные розмарины; выкапывать, как Карлсон, косточку персика и глядеть, проросла ли; затаив дыхание, смотреть, как пробиваются ростки неизвестных семян, привезенных из чужой страны; зарывать в горшок с плющом семя, добытое из случайно доставшегося плода-рамбутана, черного и волосатого - может, и у нас такой созреет?
Я вот уже два месяца жду: прорастет ли у меня греческий желудь с колючего дуба? Но он спит. Зато пророс огромный крымский чертополох. Подобрали когда-то с клумбы сбитую хулиганом цветочную головку, привезли, положили в горшок для красоты, а из нее вдруг посыпались семена... Растет и метровая уже мушмула из круглого семечка, и акация ленкоранская (сорвали с дерева стручок), и яблонька (сын ел яблоко и закопал семена), и авокадо из косточки, и плющ из черенка, и укоренившаяся роза из букета, и хризантема, подаренная к празднику. Нормальный азарт естествоиспытателя - смотреть, как из толстой косточки авокадо выдвигается росток. Или... что за травка проклюнулась в горшке с кипарисом из Никитского сада?
И, не веря своим глазам, обнаруживать через месяц, что травка- то оказалась пальмой. А еще через несколько, когда она уже обретет форму, проверить по справочнику, как ее зовут, и узнать, что это трахикарпус. Таращить глаза, идентифицировать, восхищаться, собирать семена, вымачивать, дезинфицировать, растить под стеклом, пикировать, рассаживать - все хорошо, все правильно, все прекрасно. Но выкапывать тайком чужие розы с клумбы - это все-таки фи, а никакое не цветоводство.
